Hey You! Bust A Move!

Hey you!!!  You there!  No, don’t look around.  I’m talking to you! Yes, You!
Spring has sprung! April 4th is a very important day! No, it’s not my birthday (that’s next month…. Stay tuned for more details on that!) Yes, April 4th is National Walking Day!  So what does that mean?! That means it’s time! It’s time to bust a move! Get in the groove! Let’s Move!
I see you’re not convinced.  Well, let’s see…
  • Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer in America?!
  •  Did you know that Alabama is one of the FATTEST states in the U.S.?!
  • Did you know that obesity is a MAJOR contributor of heart disease?!
Get it?? Oh… well… I see you are not convinced. Ok –
  •  Heart disease kills 1 out of every 3 women (I didn’t stutter… heart disease KILLS not just affect, or bother like a pimple – it KILLS)
  • The very smart people at the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) says heart disease is an EPIDEMIC in the U.S.
Oh, another little detail:
  •  Almost 500,000 deaths EVERY year is attributed to heart disease
  •  Basically, that is 1 death every 30 SECONDS
Ok – now that I have your attention… National Walking Day! April 4th!  What is cool about walking? It doesn’t cost a thing to take a walk
  • It’s natural for most people to do it (some of us are more coordinated than others)
  •  Walking might help you drop a few pounds
  • By walking for only 30 minutes every day, you reduce your risk of heart disease!
So what are we talking about?  April 4th! National Walking Day!  I’m saying to ditch the desk!

Go walk! 30 minutes! The hardest part is getting started. Let’s face it; you do harder stuff during work. So put one foot in front of the other and hit the door!! Check out www.heart.org for spiffy tools, resources and info!

Oh! And no whining! Even a gimpy girl like me can walk some! For those of you who don’t know me, I am a middle-aged rock star… not really… A super-hero! Nahhh.  A diva! No, not exactly.  I’m a SURVIVOR. I battle heart disease every day.  For those inquiring minds, I suffer with Atrial Fibrillation, Congestive Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy. There are good days and … other days.

Get out there! Walk! The life you save may be your own! Go get ‘em folks! Make me proud! Bust a move! Get in the groove! Let’s Move!

Here are some of the words from a famous song that make me giggle,

“Next day’s function high class luncheon
Food they're serving, you're stone-cold munchin'
Music comes on people start to dance
But then you ate so much you nearly split your pants

So come on fatso and just bust a move”
